Hunter Biden has now given America a remarkably precise answer to a question almost nobody was asking.

During a freewheeling interview with progressive commentator Luke Beasley, the former first son joked that he was “only a little bit” gay.

Then he put a number on it: 48.6%.

The moment came near the beginning of Beasley’s lengthy conversation with Biden. After Beasley said he was gay and asked whether Biden was, too, Biden played along and supplied the oddly specific figure.

Here is the exchange that began making the rounds:

Beasley opened by pretending he expected former President Joe Biden, then asked Hunter what he did besides being related to someone famous. Hunter answered by sarcastically calling himself a central figure in the so-called “Biden crime family.”

From there, the two leaned into an intentionally awkward comedy routine. The tone is unmistakable when seen in full: Beasley prods, Biden fires back, and neither man treats the percentage as a serious declaration of sexual identity.

The number did not exactly survive the interview intact.

When Beasley asked if he would be Biden’s type, Biden said he would prefer someone “a little bit more masculine” if he were gay. Beasley kept the teasing going by asking about Biden’s painting and bringing up colorful, rainbow-like palettes.

Biden eventually announced that the conversation had pushed his “gaydom” down to 47%.

That was not the final revision.

The Daily Wire reported that Biden returned to the bit as the interview wrapped up and revised himself upward to 48.5%. In other words, the joke began at 48.6%, dipped to 47%, and finished one-tenth of a point below where it started.

That shifting tally is important context. Biden used conditional language while describing what his “type” would be if he were gay, and the running calculation changed whenever Beasley landed another joke.

This was comedy, not a formal coming-out announcement.

Still, the line was tailor-made for the internet. It compressed a long and sometimes serious interview into a number bizarre enough to travel on its own, complete with a decimal point that made the whole thing sound like the result of laboratory testing.

The Advocate noted that the joke sat inside Biden’s broader effort to reclaim a public platform built around his scandals and addiction. Biden said he remained mostly silent while his father was president because he was under federal investigation, facing criminal charges, and later subject to federal supervision.

He also said he has been sober since June 2019 and wants to reach people dealing with substance abuse and the families living through it with them. His message was that accountability and guilt can be necessary in recovery, while shame can keep a person trapped.

The conversation also covered his appearances with political opponents, the years of attacks built around his laptop, and an emotional update on his father’s health.

Biden insisted that he is not speaking for the Democratic Party or running for office. He says he is finally speaking for himself.

So there it is: 48.6%, then 47%, then 48.5%.

Apparently even Hunter Biden’s punchlines come with revisions.
