Senator Susan Collins released a statement today confirming that she believes President Trump should wait until the election is over to choose a nominee for the Supreme Court. The heart of her statement said she believes it’s fair to let the next president choose the next Supreme court Justice even though the next president isn’t sworn in until January 20th of 2021.
“In fairness to the American people, who will either be re-electing the president or selecting a new one, the decision on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court should be made by the president who is elected on November 3rd.”

Senator Collins is in a close reelection race in the left-leaning state of Maine after she was criticized for voting for Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Leader McConnell can only lose three Republican Senators for the Supreme Court vote for a new Justice. Senator Lisa Murkowski announced he would not support a vote on a new Justice. Reports are that Mitt Romney will join Collins and Murkowski.

Of course, some cowardly Republican Senators have already caved to say they won’t vote until the election.
Sen. Susan Collins has told Jonathan Martin of NYT that she will not vote for a new Supreme Court Justice in October or during a lame duck session if Donald Trump loses reelection.
