Please pray for our troops tonight.

This breaking report will be updated:

There are reports that numerous short-range ballistic missiles or cruise missiles have been fired (video below) into Western Iraq in the Anwar Province where American airbase Al Asad is located. The base houses American and coalition troops. There are 5,000 American troops in Iraq.

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham: “We are aware of the reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq. The President has been briefed and is monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team.”

It’s unusual that these are missiles being fired on American bases in Iraq. A very serious situation and escalation by Iran. David Lauter of the LA Times calls this a “big escalation”:

“Iran’s missile attack on a U.S. base marks a major shift. In the past, U.S. officials have accused Iran of attacks on US forces, but it’s always been through cutaways — proxy militias. This is direct and traceable — a big escalation.”

It is being reported that Iran has named this attack “Operation Martyr Soleimani” and Iranian state TV has cited IRGC saying this is the first response for the death of General Soleimani.

The translation from Iran’s Fars News Agency describes the attack as “Hard revenge”:

“Hard revenge / Some sources report that Iranian ballistic missiles were fired at the US base in Iraq.”

Iran has been warned so there is no doubt that President Trump will respond.
