Critics of socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani warned long before last year’s election that residents of New York City would soon see the disastrous consequences of his far-left policies if he were elected mayor.
Just months later, those predictions have come to pass for at least some voters, including a community in the East Village where a new homelessness intake facility was opened without any notice.
The Daily Caller had this report:
Residents in Election District 45 gave Mamdani 70.1% of the vote over independent candidate Andrew Cuomo’s 26%, according to Fox News. A group of those residents and the Village Organization for the Integrity of Community Engagement (VOICE) filed suit Monday in Manhattan Supreme Court to block the city from converting a building at 8 East 3rd Street into a citywide homeless intake center for adult men.
The lawsuit claims the administration bypassed required environmental reviews and community input by invoking a 2022 emergency declaration originally tied to the asylum-seeker crisis, Fox News reported.
ADVERTISEMENTThe site currently functions as a 175-bed transitional housing facility run by Project Renewal, according to PIX11. The plaintiffs argue the surrounding area already bears a disproportionate share of the city’s social services. A state judge granted a temporary restraining order Wednesday, freezing the plan, NY1 reported. Both sides return to court May 7.
News of the lawsuit prompted an array of “told-you-so” responses and social media posts pointing out the Democratic Party’s hypocrisy:
It’s like the Martha’s Vineyard libs who vote Blue but arranged the immediate removal of 30 migrants within hours of arrival.

The Dummycrat party is almost mathematically precise in their hypocrisy. NIMBY is the very definition of a Dimocrat.

Fox News reported on that online reaction in its coverage of the lawsuit:
“No one is more ‘not in my backyard’ than white progressives. This community voted for Mamdani in a landslide but don’t want to live with the consequences,” Michael Henry, a former New York attorney general candidate, wrote on social media.
“Not shocked,” Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said in a post of his own.
Election District 45, the area that includes East Village, voted for Mamdani in a 70.1% victory over independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, who garnered just 26.0% of the vote.
Even so, 10 residents joined the Village Organization for the Integrity of Community Engagement (VOICE) in their suit against the city after Mamdani announced plans earlier this year to turn a building at 8 East 3rd Street into a citywide intake shelter to house homeless adult men.
