If taxpayers in the Golden State need another reason to support anyone-but-a-Democrat this November, this should suffice.

Even in the state where everything is taxed to high heaven, one state lawmaker is insisting on one exception. It’s not an end to the property tax that keeps homeowners indebted to the state forever, or the death tax that robs grieving relatives of their already-taxed inheritances, or even the gas tax that keeps California’s price at the pump consistently among the highest in the country.

No, as Fox News reports, she wants a taxpayer-supported handout to people based on their skin color … and she wants it paid out tax-free:

“For generations, descendants of formerly enslaved people have been denied both justice and economic opportunity,” Assemblymember Tina McKinnor, a Democrat representing Inglewood district, said in a statement announcing the bill aiming to establish the measure. “Reparations are meant to repair harm, not be partially taken back through taxation.”

Assembly Bill 2186, introduced by McKinnor, would protect future reparations payments or benefits from the state’s personal income taxes, assuming that federal, state or local reparations programs are approved.

According to the bill, the measure would apply for “taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2027, and before January 1, 2032, gross income shall not include any reparations benefit or payment received by a taxpayer during the taxable year.”

The bill also states that a “reparations benefit or payment means any monetary payment, grant, trust distribution, debt forgiveness, or other financial compensation.”

McKinnor did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

On one hand, it’s refreshing to hear a leftist admit that taxation is essentially theft.

But her comments applying that concept to reparations opened her up to social media criticism:

LA Focus added these details:

The proposal comes as California continues examining recommendations from the state’s Reparations Task Force, which studied the lasting impacts of slavery and discrimination on Black Californians. The task force released recommendations in 2023 that included proposals related to housing discrimination, education, economic inequality and financial compensation.

McKinnor said California should prepare for future reparations programs by establishing tax protections ahead of time.

“California is actively preparing for the implementation of reparations programs,” McKinnor said. “We must ensure that recipients receive the full benefit of these efforts.”

The Assemblymember also framed the measure as part of a broader effort to provide tax relief for Californians facing economic pressures and high living costs.

The bill received bipartisan support on the Assembly Floor, passing with a 58-17 vote, before advancing to the Senate, where lawmakers will debate the proposal.

For a slightly different spin on the same concept, here’s a flashback to Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) and her idea for giving Blacks a big payout:
