The House is about to get one member smaller. And nobody seems to be shedding any tears.
Democrat Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of Florida is expected to be expelled from Congress as early as Monday, according to Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. The reason? Allegedly stealing $5 million in FEMA disaster relief funds and funneling the money into her own pockets.
A House Ethics subcommittee found that the panel had proven 25 of 27 counts of ethics violations against her. Twenty-five out of twenty-seven. That is not a close call.

Disgraced Democrat Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is expected to be EXPELLED from the House in just 2 DAYS, according to Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.

Speaker Mike Johnson has already thrown his weight behind expulsion. He told reporters the evidence is clear: “The Ethics Committee has gone through all of its processes, and they found some alarming facts. I think the facts are indisputable at this point, and so I believe it’ll be the consensus of this body that she should be expelled.”
Luna has been even more direct, posting on X that the expulsion vote is “ready to be called up on the 21st.” She told reporters she is “very confident” the votes are there.
Fox News reported on the broader context of the upcoming hearing:
Cherfilus-McCormick is under federal indictment over allegations that she stole $5 million from FEMA disaster funds for personal use. The House Ethics Committee will hold a public hearing on April 21 to determine what sanctions are appropriate.
Expulsion requires a vote of two-thirds of the House, meaning Democratic support would be needed. But given the severity of the charges and the recent wave of resignations from members facing misconduct allegations, bipartisan support for removal appears likely.
The timing here is hard to ignore. Cherfilus-McCormick’s potential expulsion comes just days after Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales both announced they would resign rather than face expulsion votes of their own. The message from Congress is getting louder: the era of looking the other way is over.

This comes after she was caught stealing $5M in FEMA funds.

For her part, Cherfilus-McCormick is refusing to go quietly. She has denied any wrongdoing and warned against what she calls a rush to judgment. In a statement, she said: “Those calling for my resignation or expulsion do not know, nor do they care about my district or the fight we are in right now.”
The House Ethics Committee hearing is set for Monday, April 21. If the committee recommends expulsion and the full House votes in favor, Cherfilus-McCormick would become one of the very few members expelled from the House since the Civil War.
