According to reports, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) will not hold a third ballot for House Speaker.
Jordan reportedly agreed to back Patrick McHenry (R-NC) as interim Speaker.
“Outspoken U.S. Republican Jim Jordan will not hold a third ballot to be speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and will instead back empowering interim speaker Patrick McHenry, the Washington Post and Punchbowl said on Thursday,” Reuters wrote.
“Jim Jordan will NOT be holding a third ballot for Speaker of the House today,” journalist Nick Sortor commented.
“After meeting with House leadership this morning, Jim Jordan agreed to back Patrick McHenry for interim speaker until January. At this point, it does NOT seem like Jordan is bowing out, but may instead be using the time between now and January to whip the votes to become Speaker,” he added.

Newsmax reports:
Republican Rep. Jim Jordan will not hold a third ballot to be speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and will instead back empowering interim speaker Patrick McHenry to serve until January, The Washington Post and Punchbowl reported Thursday.
The House has been without a leader for more than two weeks, and Jordan has twice failed to secure the 217 votes needed to claim the speaker’s gavel as he has faced opposition from Democrats and more than 20 of his fellow Republicans.
Newsmax has learned that Jordan remains interested in the chamber’s top job and plans to use the time from now until shore up votes between now and January.
Jordan failed to secure enough GOP support to win the House Speaker job in two rounds of voting.
22 House Republicans voted against Jordan Wednesday.
With Jordan’s failure to secure enough GOP support to win a House floor vote, bipartisan support grew to expand McHenry’s powers.
From CNBC:
With Rep. Jim Jordan’s candidacy for House speaker in doubt Wednesday, a growing number of Republicans and Democrats were coalescing around a plan to formally elect Rep. Patrick McHenry as speaker pro tempore, to allow Congress to perform basic functions.
Jordan, who has now lost two consecutive House votes to be elected speaker, has pushed back on the idea.
“I don’t think that’s the right way to go,” Jordan, the far-right Republican from Ohio, told NBC News when asked about the calls to empower McHenry.
Jordan lost his first ballot for speaker on Tuesday, with 20 Republicans and all Democrats voting against him. He lost by an even wider margin in a second ballot Wednesday afternoon, with 22 Republicans voting against him.
The House has been without a speaker for two weeks, following the ouster of GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California spurred by a small bloc of right-wing Republicans.
Congress is facing a Nov. 17 deadline to craft and pass a spending bill to keep the federal government from shutting down.
