A family night at the Wisconsin State Fair descended into chaos when a violent mob began brawling through the fairgrounds, sending parents and children running for safety.

Video from the final hours of the fair shows groups fighting near the rides, people being knocked to the pavement, and terrified fairgoers scrambling to get away.

Police say one officer was punched in the face. Seven people were arrested in connection with the disturbances, and a member of the fair’s security team was also injured.

WISN’s first report captured the confusion as multiple fights broke out Sunday night:

WISN 12 News reports that the trouble erupted late Sunday near Spin City, the portion of the fairgrounds containing the rides. By 10 p.m., the station saw multiple mounted officers positioned near the north entrance.

Dispatch audio revealed just how quickly the situation overwhelmed the area. An officer called for anyone available to be sent to Spin City as police tried to regain control.

The station’s footage showed mounted officers forming a visible line near the entrance while crowds continued moving through the nighttime fairgrounds.

Fair officials later confirmed that seven people were arrested. They said no fairgoer suffered a serious injury, but a security team member was hurt and officials did not disclose that person’s condition.

Local reporter Kendall Keys delivered the arrest count and the latest injury information:

The Wisconsin State Fair said police also dealt with people trying to force their way into the event without authorization, along with disturbances involving groups already inside.

Wisconsin State Fair Park Police received help from the Milwaukee and West Allis police departments. The security response included mounted patrols, bicycle officers, Milwaukee’s Major Events Response Team, and drone coverage.

Officials also knocked down rumors of gunfire, saying law enforcement confirmed there were no gunshots connected to the incidents.

The Gateway Pundit compiled longer footage from the fairgrounds showing the violence spreading through the midway. The video appears to show people punching, kicking, and tackling others while bystanders flee.

One sequence shows a person being forced toward the pavement as fights continue in several directions at once. Other fairgoers retreat past the food stands while the violence moves across the open walkway.

The extended footage shows why the official word “disturbances” does not begin to capture what families were forced to run from:

The fair’s statement called the incidents isolated to the final hours of an otherwise safe 11-day event. Officials said the behavior was unacceptable and promised to keep reviewing security plans with law enforcement.

That review needs to be serious. Families should not have to calculate whether an evening at the state fair will end with their children running from a mob.

Seven arrests are a start. Anyone identified on video attacking innocent people or assaulting police should face the full consequences of the law.
