A nightmare unfolded in downtown Minneapolis Wednesday afternoon when gunfire left multiple people wounded, including two police officers.
The city confirmed the officers were among the victims and urged the public to stay well away from a large section of downtown while police and state agencies flooded the area.

KSTP 5 Eyewitness News reported the most serious early details from its law enforcement and city hall sources.
The station said at least six people had been shot and that multiple civilians were dead. One officer had been hit in the abdomen and the other in the leg, according to the station’s sources; officials had not yet released the victims’ names or a final casualty count.
As of 5:39 p.m. Central, KSTP reported that one officer was in surgery. The other officer’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening, though those were source-based updates during an active response rather than the fuller account investigators will eventually provide.

The Hyatt Regency was placed on lockdown as authorities asked people to avoid the area from 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and from Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South.
