On Wednesday, Donald Trump Jr. criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Twitter for his response to the massive amount of aid the United States has supplied them, calling him “an ungrateful international welfare queen.”

Ahead of Zelensky’s meeting with President Joe Biden, the Ukrainian president spoke in the city of Bakhmut in Ukraine’s contested Donetsk province. In the video that his office released, Zelensky was given a Ukrainian flag that he suggested would be passed on to U.S. leaders.

“The guys handed over our beautiful Ukrainian flag with their signatures for us to pass on,” Zelensky said. “We are not in an easy situation. The enemy is increasing its army. Our people are braver and need more powerful weapons. We will pass it on from the boys to the Congress, to the president of the United States. We are grateful for their support, but it is not enough. It is a hint – it is not enough.”

Byron York, the chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, tweeted out the comment that Zelensky made, saying, “Zelensky is apparently prepared to tell Congress that whatever the US has given Ukraine — $45 billion in new aid now under consideration — it is not enough.”

In his tweet, York is referencing the $1.7 trillion spending bill that the House is set to vote on this Friday. Included in the massive omnibus bill is a proposed $45 billion in additional aid for Ukraine.

Donald Trump Jr. responded to this tweet, tearing into Zelensky for seemingly being ungrateful for the incredible amount of aid the U.S. has provided his country. Trump Jr. said, “Zelensky is basically an ungrateful international welfare queen.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson and former US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard also had some criticisms of Zelensky and his facade of maintaining a democratic society.

Discussing the elements of democracy that are currently lacking in the wartorn country, Gabbard said, “You see no freedom of the press, [Zelensky] has shut down any media that he does not control – his government does not control. He has gotten political opposition arrested… He’s shut down the biggest Ukraine church in the country.”

“He has actually threatened to punish any Christian caught worshipping in unapproved ways,” Gabbard added. “This is their shining example of democracy.”
