Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has gained Republican support for his proposed discharge petition to release the complete Jeffrey Epstein files.

Rep. Thomas Massie Joins House Democrat In Effort To Force Release Of “COMPLETE” Epstein Files

“We all deserve to know what’s in the Epstein files, who’s implicated, and how deep this corruption goes. Americans were promised justice and transparency,” Massie said.

“We’re introducing a discharge petition to force a vote in the US House of Representatives on releasing the COMPLETE files,” he added.

“A discharge petition is a procedural tool for bypassing leadership. In 7 days we can start collecting signatures. At 218 signatures, the House must vote on our bill requiring a full release of the Epstein files. If your Representative won’t sign the discharge petition, ask why,” Massie noted.

Massie proposed the discharge petition alongside Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA).

“@RepThomasMassie & I are introducing the Epstein Files Transparency Act –– a bipartisan bill to require the Attorney General to release the files within 30 days. Rep. Massie is working on the rule to ensure there is a vote. The public deserves to know where every member stands,” Khanna said.

The measure quickly gained five additional House Republicans on board.

More from The Hill:

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who is leading the push with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), announced on social media Wednesday that five more Republicans had signed on to co-sponsor the measure: Reps. Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Jeff Van Drew (N.J.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Eric Burlison (Mo.), and Tim Burchett (Tenn.).

“The American people deserve full transparency,” Van Drew said in a post on the social platform X.

“I will never protect pedophiles or the elites and their circles,” Greene said in another post.

Their support for the matter comes despite Trump continuing to press supporters to drop their interest in the Epstein “hoax.” The issue has split the Republican Party, with members of the president’s conservative base expressing outrage about the DOJ and FBI saying in a memo earlier this month that they would not release any more information about the Epstein case — much of which is under seal by courts.

Massie later listed the following co-sponsors for the measure:

  • Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA)
  • Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA)
  • Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN)
  • Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ)
  • Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO)
  • Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ)
  • Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO)
  • Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL)
  • Rep. Tom Barrett (R-MI)
  • Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI)

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) called for the Justice Department to release all information on Epstein for "transparency."

"We should put everything out there and let the people decide," Johnson told Benny Johnson.

POLITICO noted:

In February, Bondi told Fox News that files related to the Epstein investigation — including a document suspected to include high-profile names associated with his sex crimes — was “sitting on my desk right now.”

But in a Cabinet meeting earlier this month, Bondi denied saying she had a client list.

“My response was, it’s sitting on my desk to be reviewed. Meaning the file, along with the JFK and MLK files,” Bondi said during the meeting.

Some of Trump’s top supporters, including congressional lawmakers and his former senior adviser Elon Musk, have expressed outrage over the administration’s decision to withhold information detailed in the reports.

Trump on Tuesday defended Bondi amid calls for her to step down.

“The attorney general has handled that very well. She’s really done a very good job, and I think that when you look at that, you’ll understand it,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

Johnson on Tuesday said he is “anxious” to get the issue resolved.
