Former Houston Official’s Own Boyfriend Turns Against Her Over Rant About ‘White-Only’ Camp Mystic

By Russell Bartlett | Jul 9, 2025

In the wake of tragic flooding that devastated much of Texas and claimed the lives of many children at a Christian camp, there has been an outpouring of prayer and support across the country.

But more than a few folks have opted to inject their divisive politics into the story — including former Houston mayoral appointee Sade Perkins, who made the vile and false insinuation that Camp Mystic was a “White-only” camp.

Her viral social media rant soon drew massive backlash, including from her boyfriend, Rev. Dr. Colin Bossen, who happens to be a pastor in the Houston area, as Chron reported:

“My partner Sade Perkins has made comments on social media regarding the horrific flooding that devastated Camp Mystic,” Bossen said. “I want to be clear that I disavow her comments.”

His statement continued:

Boseen, in his statement, apologized to his congregation and to the families affected by the disaster. “I am deeply sorry for the harm that this may have caused to the Camp Mystic families and the members of the community of Central Texas and along the Guadalupe River,” he said. “I apologize to my congregation who has experienced harm because of her comments.”

He added that he would continue praying for those impacted by the tragedy and “will continue to work to repair the harm this incident has caused.”

Houston Mayor John Whitmire confirmed that Perkins would not be reappointed to the food board and called her remarks “deeply inappropriate” and out of step with public decency during a time of grief.

Here’s a sampling of the criticism Perkins has received in recent days:

If you missed Perkins’ original comments, here’s a recap from the New York Post:

“I know I’m going to get cancelled for this, but Camp Mystic is a white-only girls’ Christian camp. They don’t even have a token Asian. They don’t have a token Black person. It’s an all-white, white-only conservative Christian camp,” Sade Perkins said in a widely condemned video on her private TikTok account.

“If you ain’t white you ain’t right, you ain’t gettin’ in, you ain’t goin’. Period,” Perkins said — as the state’s overall death toll from the devastating flooding soared, with the number of dead at 80.

She then claimed no one would care if the victims were minorities.
