The Indianapolis Metro Police Department said in a statement that it is investigating “a physical disturbance” between two men that took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. One man received lacerations while the other man received injuries consistent with stab wounds.
ADVERTISEMENT“Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between two men and not a random act of violence,” the IMPD said, adding that “the case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision.”
The IMPD said it is department policy not to identify victims or suspects unless the individuals are being arrested, being charged or being sought.
Sanchez was scheduled to be part of the broadcast crew for Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium but will no longer work the game.
According to the New York Post, the former Jets quarterback got into an altercation with another man outside Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery.
The individual who reportedly stabbed Sanchez claimed he was acting in self-defense and that Sanchez was the aggressor.
“Sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family. Hoping for a speedy recovery,” the New York Jets stated.

The New York Post noted:
The unnamed combatant reportedly told cops he was making a food delivery when Sanchez told him to leave and that he couldn’t park in an alley.
The person claimed Sanchez became aggressive and used pepper spray, causing him to stab Sanchez in self-defense, the outlet reported.
ADVERTISEMENTSanchez wasn’t cooperative with responding police officers, sources told FOX59/CBS4. Sanchez has yet to give cops his account of the story.
Loughmiller’s bartender Carrie Swan told The Post her manager Scott Bennett tended to Sanchez when he found the ex-Jet bleeding outside the pub.
“The manager brought him in and started putting towels on the wound,” she said.
“It’s nuts, absolutely nuts,” Swan said. “Normally, we don’t see this kind of violence on this side of town.”
Nobody in the bar realized who Sanchez was until the news came out later Saturday.“I’m assuming his complexion probably wasn’t looking so great,” said Swan, who wasn’t working at the time of the stabbing. “This is a crazy world we live in.”
