This is a big deal!

The Trump administration is planning on setting up a new system that allows Americans to get cheaper prescription drugs from Canada.

According to CBS, the HHS Secretary Alex Azar, a former drug industry exec, announced the plan on Wednesday.

With oversight from the FDA, pharmacists and drug wholesalers will act as middlemen for American consumers who want to pay less for prescription drugs.

Azar’s announcement focused on how Americans will now be able to access cheaper prescription drugs:

“President Trump has been clear: for too long American patients have been paying exorbitantly high prices for prescription drugs that are made available to other countries at lower prices. Today’s announcement outlines the pathways the Administration intends to explore to allow safe importation of certain prescription drugs to lower prices and reduce out of pocket costs for American patients.”

“This is the next important step in the Administration’s work to end foreign freeloading and put American patients first.” – HHS Secretary Alex Azar
