The mainstream media has found a new talking point in the ongoing leftist assault on President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

After constructing a detention facility in Florida that has been dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” reporters have seized on a series of misleading claims about the location and the supposed threats detainees could encounter upon arrival.

One such exchange played out on NBC recently, but Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was prepared for Kristen Welker’s query with a relevant reference to the Biden administration, as the Daily Caller reported:

“Democrats have called them cages, though,” Welker said, cutting off Noem.

“I wish they would have said that back during the Biden administration and back when Democrats were in the White House,” Noem quickly responded. “And they were piling people on top of each other on cement floors and literally didn’t have two feet to move. They never did that. That’s why this politics has to end.”

During the Biden administration, pictures from inside immigration detention centers showed overcrowded conditions as millions of migrants entered the country illegally.

The new facility, which is expected to cost $450 million for 5,000 beds to house illegal migrants and other foreign nationals in detention, opened in July. Prior to housing migrants, President Donald Trump and other officials from his administration were seen talking through the space and being given a breakdown of how the facility would operate.

“We took cameras in there,” Noem continued. “We will take cameras in there and show people what these facilities look like. Because if you compare them to what happened under the Biden administration and under the Obama administration, these centers are at the highest levels and they’re even higher than what our federal prison standards are or state or local often are.”

This wasn’t the first time Noem offered a full-throated endorsement of the role Alligator Alcatraz will play in advancing the MAGA agenda:

Here’s what she had to say over the weekend, per the Tampa Bay Times:

“We have over a million illegal aliens that have left the workforce already,” she said. “They’ve left the workforce and gone home because they’ve recognized it was the right thing to do.”

On Saturday afternoon, Noem held a press conference in Tampa to discuss local law enforcement and immigration officials’ efforts to arrest immigrants without legal status who have committed violent crimes. She was also in town to speak at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit.

“By far, we have focused, overwhelmingly, day after day, on bringing in the worst of the worst and getting them off of our streets,” she said.

Accompanied by eight local law enforcement officers, Noem stood behind a table topped with nearly a dozen guns, as well as bags of cash, tools and drugs. The paraphernalia was confiscated in the last two weeks by Homeland Security officers in Tampa over the last two weeks, she said.

Behind her, four posters displayed mugshots of immigrants who’d been arrested by local law enforcement, with their countries of origin and the crime they committed. Crimes included violent assault, sexual battery, child pornography and child abuse.

“Specifically those that I addressed today are against our children and shows truly the deranged monsters that they are,” Noem said.

Noem also touted Gov. Ron DeSantis’ work on Alligator Alcatraz.

The state-run facility in the Everglades to hold immigrant detainees opened a few weeks ago, and will expand from its current 1,000 beds, she said. Since then, the Florida Republican party has released Alligator Alcatraz merchandise, and Democratic lawmakers petitioned the Florida Supreme Court after they were denied entry into the facility. Environmental groups are worried about the center’s effect on the Everglades, and detainees have raised concerns about a lack of available water, unsanitary food and access to medical care.
