After the Manhattan grand jury voted to indict former President Donald Trump, lawyer Alan Dershowitz suggested that he should use his mugshot for his 2024 presidential campaign poster.

On Thursday night after news broke of Trump’s indictment, Dershowitz appeared on Newsmax to discuss with former White House press secretary Sean Spicer what this meant for Trump.

“He will be mug shot and fingerprinted,” said Dershowitz. “There’s really no way around that.”

He added that Trump could use his mugshot to benefit him politically, boosting his presidential campaign.

Dershowitz also appeared on Newsmax’s “The Record With Greta Van Susteren” on Thursday, blasting the grand jury’s ruling as constitutionally “very, very questionable.”

Dershowitz said,

“This is the thinnest case, the most stretched case I’ve ever seen – and that’s coming from a liberal Democrat… It’s not about politics. I love the legal system, I’ve been doing this for 60 years. I’ve never quite seen a case like this, and for it to be the first prosecution of a former president and the first prosecution of a man who’s running for president against an incumbent Democrat… I’ll tell you, it’s banana republic time.”

“When you’re going after the man who is running for president of the United States against the incumbent president, you better have a strong case, and this is about the weakest case I’ve seen in 60 years of law practice,” said Dershowitz. “I’m shocked.”

“This is the worst case of prosecutorial discretion, abuse I’ve seen,” he added. “But how should anybody be surprised? When the attorney general of New York and the district attorney both run on the promise to get Trump.”

“They have to keep their political promise, so they promised to get him. They get elected, and then they rummaged through all the statute books to try to find something to pin on him, and they can’t find anything in the statute books, so they combined two inapplicable statutes and they say, one plus one equals 11. But it’s zero plus zero equals zero.”
