President Trump will present the World Cup trophy to this year’s champions at the final in New Jersey on July 19.

Trump and FIFA president Gianni Infantino will jointly present the trophy to the captain of the winning team.

The final will be held at MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL’s New York Jets and Giants.

ESPN shared further:

At Qatar 2022 and Russia 2018, the two previous World Cups staged under Infantino’s leadership, the FIFA president presented the trophy.

“We will be together with the president [Trump] enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together,” Infantino told “Fox & Friends.”

“We are together all the time.”

The decision to co-present the trophy follows the controversy surrounding the presentation of the FIFA Club World Cup to Chelsea after their victory over Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey last summer.

Trump was allowed to present the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James, but his failure to leave the stage led to him taking part in the team celebrations alongside bemused players.

Although recent World Cups have been handed to the victors by Infantino and his predecessor as FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, heads of state have previously presented the World Cup trophy.

Trump received the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize in December, which Infantino presented to him at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., during the World Cup draw.

The Hill noted:

Trump is an avid sports fan and has attended a number of major sporting events in recent months, including an NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden, University of Alabama football game and UFC fight held on the White House lawn.

Infantino has gone to great lengths to build an alliance with Trump, presenting him with FIFA’s first-ever “Peace Prize” last year.

“And you can always count, Mr. President, on my support, on the support of the entire … soccer community to help you make peace and make the world prosper,” the FIFA leader said at the time.

The U.S. men’s national team is off to its best World Cup start in recent memory, winning its first two group stage matches and clinching a spot in the knockout round, which begins next week.
