President Trump on Sunday endorsed John E. Sununu for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire.

“John is strongly supported by the most Highly Respected Leaders in New Hampshire, and many Republicans in the U.S. Senate and, as your next Senator, he will work tirelessly to advance our America First Agenda,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“John will fight hard to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Advance MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Provide Access to Affordable and High Quality Health Care, Champion School Choice, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Support our Brave Military, Veterans, and Law Enforcement, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” he added.

WMUR has more:

Sununu served in the U.S. Senate from 2003 to 2009. He is up against another former senator, Scott Brown, in the GOP primary. Brown also served as U.S. ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa during Trump’s first administration.

Sununu currently holds a polling lead over Brown. Trump’s endorsement is expected to give him an additional boost ahead of the Republican primary in September.

In response, the Republican National Committee released the following statement:

“New Hampshire’s Senate seat is one to watch this cycle. The President’s endorsement underscores what a priority this race is and that Republicans are fully prepared to show up in November.”

“When John Sununu was last in office, he repeatedly voted for corporate special interests over the interests of Granite Staters, then he cashed in with cushy corporate board seats and lined his pockets with millions. Now, he’s running to once again sell out New Hampshire to wealthy corporations and advance Trump’s chaotic tariffs that are hurting small businesses and raising costs for working families,” the New Hampshire Democratic Party said in a statement.

Whoever wins the GOP primary will find themselves in one of the most competitive U.S. Senate races this election cycle.

Republicans are attempting to flip a seat currently held by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), who is not seeking re-election.

Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH) is the favorite to win the Democrat primary.

POLITICO shared further:

Sununu, a moderate who has opposed Trump across his presidential runs, thanked him in a statement and quickly pivoted to talking about his priorities for New Hampshire.

“I want to thank the President for his support and thank the thousands of Granite Staters who are supporting me,” Sununu said. “This campaign has and always will be about standing up for New Hampshire — every single day.”

Trump’s endorsement further tips the scales in an already pitched GOP primary between Sununu and Brown, who represented Massachusetts in the Senate before moving to New Hampshire and running unsuccessfully for Senate there in 2014.
