During the (unofficial) State of the Union Address Tuesday night, a hot mic caught President Trump shaking Chief Justice John Robert’s hand and saying “thank you again, I won’t forget it.”

According to the NY Post, many on the left took it as a thank you for the “Presidential Immunity” ruling:

After getting caught on a hot mic telling Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, “Thank you again, I won’t forget it,” conspiracy theorists claimed President Donald Trump was voicing his appreciation for the Supreme Court granting him absolute immunity from prosecution for “official acts” during his first term — a ruling written by Roberts.

But President Trump himself took to TruthSocial to correct the record and explain it was obviously for swearing him in for his second term:

The Fake “Play the Ref” News, in order to create a divide between me and our great U.S. Supreme Court, heard me say last night, loudly and openly as I was walking past the Justices on the way to the podium,
“thank you,” to Chief Justice John Roberts. Like most people, I don’t watch Fake News CNN or MSDNC, but l understand they are going “crazy” asking what is it that I was thanking Justice Roberts for? They never called my office to ask, of course, but if they had I would have told these sleazebag “journalists” that I thanked him for SWEARING ME IN ON INAUGURATION DAY, AND DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB IN SO DOING! The Fake News never quits!
