The U.S. immigration policy is causing the unintended consequence of trafficking children.

A decades-old policy called the Flores agreement is to blame for incentivizing migrants from all over the globe to come to our border. Instead of changing this policy, Democrats in D.C. have been sitting on their hands. The agreement says that children can only be held for a maximum of 20 days in detention and then must be released with their guardian. Single adults can be held for months in detention.

Ironically, the same Democrats that are screaming about children in cages are causing the trafficking of children in the first place.

The gates to a detention center are locked in order to keep out the groups of men trying to buy children:

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that migrants in Tijuana shelters said they are alarmed after reports of single mothers being approached by groups of men who have offered to buy children to improve their chances of safely crossing into the United States. The men are offering about $350 to mothers in centers in Tijuana.

When leftists cry about “children in cages,” they have no idea that this is to protect the children. On the Mexican side, they don’t have that situation, so the children are being sought out to take advantage of to cross into the U.S.

The U.S. had even gone one step further when Homeland Security officials announced they would start a pilot program to test the DNA of families arriving at the U.S. border to weed out fraudulent families and “rescue children from dangerous situations.”

Children in detention are being protected by the U.S. and not so much in Mexico.
