FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is reportedly considering resigning from his post following the fallout from the release of the Jeffrey Epstein memo.

CNN reports that Bongino got into a confrontation with Attorney General Pam Bondi about the handling of the case.

CNN provided further details:

The infighting over the case came to a head during a Wednesday meeting, which included Bongino, Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, the sources said. Bongino and Patel were confronted about whether they were behind a story that said the FBI wanted more information released but was ultimately stymied by the Department of Justice, they said.

Bongino denied leaking that notion to NewsNation, which published the story, a source familiar with the matter told CNN, though he did not sign on to a statement defending the review included in that article.

CNN has reached out to Bongino and the FBI for comment. The sources cautioned that Bongino had not made up his mind, and it was possible he would stay in his position. Axios first reported some of the details of Bongino’s confrontation at the White House.

The episode comes as many of President Donald Trump’s close advisers, both inside and outside of the White House, have grown increasingly frustrated with Bondi’s handling of the so-called Epstein files, following days of intense criticism from some of the president’s most devoted supporters.

"FBI deputy director Dan Bongino took a day off from work after a White House clash with AG Pam Bondi over their handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files," Axios wrote, citing "four sources familiar with the conflict."

Investigative journalist Laura Loomer said Friday that Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel are "livid" with Bondi.

Full text:

@FBIDirectorKash and @dbongino are LIVID with @AGPamBondi over her DOJ Memo and the lack of transparency from her office regarding the Jeffery Epstein files.

Source tells me Dan Bongino is taking the day off today from his job as Deputy Director of the FBI, and there’s now speculation on whether or not he will return to his job at the @FBI over his disgust with Blondi’s lack of transparency and handling of the Epstein files.

Pam Blondi has brought total embarrassment to President Trump, @JDVance, @dbongino and @Kash_Patel. She has also LIED to the American people.

I’m told Kash and Bongino are furious with Blondi and the blowback she has caused them with her lack of transparency.

Kash Patel and Dan Bongino should call for Blondi’s public resignation today to save themselves and to also push for full transparency into the Epstein files.

This is an issue the American people care deeply about.

Someone needs to be fired for this. Giving Blondi courtesy to resign is more than she deserves.

Trump should just FIRE her.

"I worked closely with @FBIDirectorKash and @FBIDDBongino on the joint FBI and DOJ memo regarding the Epstein Files. All of us signed off on the contents of the memo and the conclusions stated in the memo. The suggestion by anyone that there was any daylight between the FBI and DOJ leadership on this memo’s composition and release is patently false," Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said.

Axios noted:

Bongino didn't come to work Friday, leading some insiders to believe he had quit. But administration officials say he's still on the job, even as the internal tension over the Epstein case continues.

A source close to Bongino, though, said "he ain't coming back."

At the center of the argument: a surveillance video from outside Epstein's cell that the administration released, saying it was proof no one had entered the room before he killed himself.

The 10-hour video had what has widely been called a "missing minute," fueling conspiracy theories in MAGA's online world about a cover-up involving Epstein's death.

The "missing minute," authorities say, stemmed from an old surveillance recording system that goes down each day at midnight to reset and record anew. It takes a minute for that process to occur, which effectively means that 60 seconds of every day aren't recorded.

Bongino — who had pushed Epstein conspiracy theories as a MAGA-friendly podcast host before President Trump appointed him to help lead the FBI — had found the video and touted it publicly and privately as proof that Epstein hadn't been murdered.

That conclusion — shared by FBI Director Kash Patel, another conspiracy theorist-turned-insider — angered many in Trump's MAGA base, criticism that increased after Axios first reported the release of the video and a related memo.
