President Trump’s Justice Department and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton just delivered a major win for children, parents, and taxpayers.
Texas Children’s Hospital has agreed to a landmark settlement that forces one of America’s biggest children’s hospitals to pay over $10 million, stop pediatric sex-rejecting procedures, and create the nation’s first-ever detransition clinic.
The settlement was announced May 15 and came through a coordinated effort between DOJ and Paxton’s office.
For a country that has watched the medical establishment lecture parents for years, this is a very different kind of headline.

The Department of Justice described the resolution in blunt terms:
DOJ announced what it called the first resolution secured under its ongoing national investigation into violations of federal law connected to pediatric sex-rejecting procedures, often called gender-affirming care. Texas Children’s Hospital entered agreements with DOJ and the Texas Attorney General that include commitments not to perform those procedures on children, including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
The hospital also agreed to collectively pay over $10 million in damages and civil penalties. DOJ said Texas Children’s will dedicate millions more to medical care for children harmed by those procedures, described by DOJ as detransitioners.
The hospital will establish the first-ever detransition clinic to provide care for victims. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Justice Department would use every weapon at its disposal to end what he called the destructive and discredited practice of so-called gender-affirming care for children.
That is not the language of a bureaucracy looking for a quiet paperwork settlement.
That is the federal government treating this as an accountability fight.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton added the Medicaid fraud component and the clinic details:
Paxton’s office said the settlement compels Texas Children’s Hospital to create the country’s first-ever Detransition Clinic. It also requires the hospital to pay $10 million for billing Texas Medicaid for unallowable and illegal gender-transition interventions, including by using false diagnosis codes.
The clinic will be multidisciplinary and designed to provide care to patients who were subjected to gender-transition procedures. For the first five years, services through the clinic will be funded by Texas Children’s and provided free of charge to patients.
Paxton’s office also said Texas Children’s agreed to fire, permanently and irrevocably terminate existing privileges, and never again hire or credential five doctors who performed the interventions. The settlement also bars Texas Children’s from providing gender-transition services and imposes compliance and ethics measures.
ADVERTISEMENTPaxton said he would investigate and bring the full force of the law against any Texas hospital that abuses children with harmful medical interventions to transition kids. That is exactly the kind of line Republican voters have been begging their leaders to draw.
Free care for five years, funded by the hospital.
That is what accountability starts to look like when officials stop hiding behind polite institutional language.
The Daily Caller covered the broader reaction, including from Dr. Eithan Haim:
America’s largest children’s hospital agreed to open the nation’s first Detransition Clinic after years of controversy over pediatric sex-change procedures. The clinic will provide free detransition services for its first five years under the settlement.
The agreement requires a $10 million payment over alleged Medicaid fraud and compels termination and revocation of privileges for multiple physicians. Texas Children’s said it made the difficult decision to settle with the Texas Attorney General and DOJ while disputing the broader political framing of the case.
Dr. Eithan Haim, who helped expose what was happening at Texas Children’s, praised Paxton and his team after the settlement was announced. Haim said the impossible had been done and that he could not believe the country’s first detransitioner clinic would open at Texas Children’s Hospital.
The report also connected the settlement to the broader fight over whether hospitals can keep treating these cases as normal medicine while taxpayers are billed for disputed interventions. That reaction matters because Haim became one of the central voices warning Texans about what was happening inside the hospital.
The impossible was done by @KenPaxtonTX and his team at the @TXAG‘s office.
Because of their hard work, the country’s first detransitioner clinic will be opening at Texas Children’s Hospital.
I cannot believe this happened. https://t.co/92Kdp9fOv8

For years, the left insisted parents had no right to question this industry.
They called it settled science, branded dissenters as bigots, and told the country to trust the same institutions that were billing Medicaid for procedures Texas now says were unallowable and illegal.
Now the Trump DOJ and Ken Paxton have forced a different conversation.
A hospital will pay millions, doctors will lose privileges, and the first clinic of its kind will exist to help patients trying to recover from what was done to them.
Every hospital in America that performed these procedures on minors should be paying attention.
The era of doing this to children and expecting taxpayers to quietly pick up the bill is over.
What do you reckon?
