President Trump took a jab at Fox News anchor Shep Smith who is leaving after 23 years. Smith shocked fellow employees when he quit on-air on Friday afternoon. He had just signed a new multi-million dollar contract a few months ago.

Speculation about what caused the sudden departure came down to the fact that Smith was tired of battling it out with his fellow Fox News anchors over President Trump. Smith made so secret of the fact that he was anti-Trump. He often editorialized on-air to criticize the president.

President Trump commented on the departure of Shepard Smith with some funny one-liners mocking the Fox News anchor:

‘Is he leaving? Oh, that’s a shame.’

‘Is he leaving because of bad ratings? Is he leaving because of me?’

‘He had terrible ratings. Is he leaving ’cause of his ratings? I mean, if he’s leaving, I assume he’s leaving because he had bad ratings. He had the worst ratings on Fox.’

After 23 years as an anchor on Fox News, the far-left Shep Smith announced that he’d be leaving the network, effective immediately.

Shep said good bye to his followers this afternoon: “Recently I asked the company to allow me to leave FOX News and begin a new chapter. After requesting that I stay, they graciously obliged. The opportunities afforded this guy from small town Mississippi have been many. It’s been an honor and a privilege to report the news each day to our loyal audience in context and with perspective, without fear or favor. I’ve worked with the most talented, dedicated and focused professionals I know and I’m proud to have anchored their work each day — I will deeply miss them.”

The Never-Trump, liberal host helped Fox News to check a box in their promise to be “fair and balanced” in their coverage of the news. Shep Smith didn’t disappoint—he approached negative news like the phony Trump-Russian collusion story about President Trump with the same level of excitement a child waking up to find Christmas presents under the tree. His enthusiasm for “gotcha” news when it came to Trump, members of his family, or his administration was unmatched.

Fellow Never-Trump Fox News host Neil Cavuto was apparently stunned by the news of Smith’s departure, telling his viewers he was ‘heartbroken’ by the news.

Hollywood Reporter – Fox News president Jay Wallace, who was once Smith’s producer, said in a statement: “Shep is one of the premier newscasters of his generation and his extraordinary body of work is among the finest journalism in the industry. His integrity and outstanding reporting from the field helped put Fox News on the map, and there is simply no better breaking news anchor who has the ability to transport a viewer to a place of conflict, tragedy, despair or elation through his masterful delivery.”

Wallace continued: “We are proud of the signature reporting and anchoring style he honed at Fox News, along with everything he accomplished here during his monumental 23-year tenure. While this day is especially difficult as his former producer, we respect his decision and are deeply grateful for his immense contributions to the entire network.”

The 3 p.m. hour on Fox News will be hosted by “a series of rotating anchors … until a new dayside news program is announced,” the network said.
