Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the season after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in his lungs.
“QB Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season after several blood clots were revealed in his lungs, has been undergoing tests for days,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said.
“Before the London game, Hurts was in the hospital until 4 am and did not sleep because sleep was a risk. He played without having slept,” he added.

ESPN shared further:
Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles released a statement Monday detailing Hurts’ condition. Lynn and the Eagles said Hurts has deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning a blood clot traveled from his legs to his lungs.
Hurts is “clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations,” according to the statement, but will not be allowed to participate in football activities while on anticoagulation medication.
ADVERTISEMENT“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” the statement said. “We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”
Hurts was initially diagnosed with what was described as a superficial blood clot in his calf. That diagnosis occurred in London before the Eagles’ Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Hurts played in that game — a 19-17 loss for the Eagles — despite the initial diagnosis, and attempted 40 passes.

Hurts did not play in the Eagles’ game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
“On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited the training room after practice requesting treatment for his calf. He informed the medical staff he had been cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. This was his first treatment session for the calf injury following the game, after having practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen received treatment, practiced in full, and was added to the practice report,” the team announced last week.
“Out of an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was performed on Saturday following the team’s flight to London and walkthrough. The ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot. Our medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play. Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia,” it continued.
“Jalen played without limitation in the game Sunday, received treatment on Monday and Tuesday, and practiced in full on Wednesday, as reflected in the practice report. Throughout our time in London and this week, we have remained in communication with the league office regarding the matter. On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot. Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority,” it added.

NBC News noted:
The team didn’t set an exact timeline for his return, though action for 2026 seems highly unlikely.
“We anticipate that he will have no long-term effect,” the club said.
Hurts was MVP of Super Bowl 59, leading his team to a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9 2025, in New Orleans.
