Ceasefire agreements don’t carry much weight when one of the parties negotiating it is a terror-sponsoring state bent on destroying Israel and the US, if not the entire West.

That’s why it wasn’t altogether shocking to see Iran send out a group of vessels, apparently to interfere in the Trump administration’s nascent Project Freedom, which seeks to guide ships through the contentious Strait of Hormuz.

But US Central Command made it clear that the threat wasn’t taken lightly, as Fox News reported:

CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said on the call that Iran historically has deployed “between 20 and 40 small boats” when harassing vessels in the strait.

“Today, we saw just six, and eliminated them quickly,” Cooper said.

“We have an enormous amount of capability and firepower concentrated in and around the Strait, including 864 Apache and MH 60 Seahawk helicopters used just this morning to eliminate six Iranian small boats threatening commercial shipping,” he added.

This is a savvy legal move by Trump.

May 1: War Powers letter formally ends hostilities, preserves force posture, asserts Article II constitutional authority.

May 3: “Project Freedom” announced as a humanitarian operation, not military.

Monday: US Navy escorts neutral commercial ships through Hormuz under freedom of navigation rights.

If Iran fires on it: that is Iran starting a new conflict. Trump is responding defensively, not attacking. No new War Powers clock starts because the US did not initiate hostilities. Iran did.

The United Arab Emirates said Iran launched four missiles at its territory on Monday, the first such attack since the U.S. and Iran agreed to a ceasefire in early April, which President Trump later extended indefinitely as he voiced hope for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

In a statement posted on its official X account, the UAE Ministry of Defense said three Iranian cruise missiles were “successfully handled over the country’s territorial waters” while a fourth landed in the sea on Monday.

Iran had targeted the UAE and other U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf with dozens of missiles and drones during open hostilities before the U.S.-Iran ceasefire came into effect on April 8, but tension has risen again in the last 24 hours as both countries seek to show control of the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes.
