The Washington Post was mocked after they published a strange profile of Democrat Stacey Abrams, who is in the running to become the Vice Presidential running mate of Joe Biden. WaPo pushes Abrams forward as a political superstar in the over-the-top way they described her:

“Whether or not she’s chosen as Biden’s running mate,” Stacey Abrams “has moved into a unique space in American politics.”

Is Abrams worthy of the superstar status thrust on her in this profile? Abrams lost the race for governor of Georgi in 2018 and has had a bad case of sour grapes since she lost to Governor Brian Kemp.

The Washington Post profile titled “The Power of Stacey Abrams” likens the politician to  “a runway supermodel” and claims Abrams “has moved quickly to political prominence.” It’s hard to believe she’s risen to “political prominence” when she lost the last election she ran in for governor of Georgia. If Abrams has risen at all, it’s because she’s being promoted by news outlets like WaPo.

The description below from the WaPo profile is the definition of over-the-top promotion:

“Pandemonium ensues as she walks to the far left of the stage, like a runway supermodel, stops on a dime, poses, tilts her head slightly and smiles. Camera flashes explode. She next pivots and walks slowly to the center of the stage, freezes there, and repeats the pose. Again, the flashes explode. Abrams is summoning her inner actress, and she is both enjoying the moment and getting through it to get to the conversation.”

Josh Jordan tweeted out the photo used by The Washington Post with this comment:

I can not believe this is a real image that the Washington Post used in their profile on Stacey Abrams.

The desire from so many in the media to make Abrams into a larger than life superhero is bizarre and telling. You’ll never see a conservative woman get this kind of coverage.

One of the best takes on the photo above is one in which Joe Biden is behind Abrams:
