On Thursday, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly brutally tore into Dr. Anthony Fauci after he said he would “consider” testifying in front of a Republican-held Congress concerning his role in the COVID pandemic.

After announcing that he will be retiring from his positions in government, Fauci has been the target of significant backlash from the GOP, who have already announced their plans to investigate him and hold him accountable for his actions before and during the pandemic.

GOP Senator Rand Paul, one of the lawmakers Fauci repeatedly clashed with during the pandemic, went after Fauci immediately after his retirement announcement.

Paul tweeted, “Fauci’s resignation will not prevent a full-throated investigation into the origins of the pandemic. He will be asked to testify under oath regarding any discussions he participated in concerning the lab leak.”

On Tuesday, Fauci appeared on Fox News where he explained to host Neil Cavuto why he is leaving his positions now, denying accusations that he is trying to avoid an investigation from his political opponents.

“I have nothing to hide,” insisted Fauci, “and I can defend everything I’ve done and every decision I’ve made. So, I’m not afraid of that at all.”

Fauci also appeared on CNN on Tuesday, where he addressed the GOP’s call for him to testify under oath, reiterating that he has nothing to hide.

Fauci was asked if, after his retirement in December, he would go testify if the Republicans asked him to.

“Sure, I certainly would consider that,” replied Fauci. “But, you’ve gotta remember, I believe oversight is a very important part of government structure, and I welcome it and it can be productive.”

“What has happened up to now is more of a character assassination than it is oversight,” he added. “So sure, I’d be happy to cooperate so long as we make it something that is a dignified oversight, which it should be, and not just bringing up ridiculous things and attacking my character. That’s not oversight.”

Fauci’s response to this question infuriated a lot of people in the GOP, but particularly angered Megyn Kelly, who ruthlessly laid into him on “The Megyn Kelly Show” for his condescending response to the potential Congressional hearing.

“He sounds like he’s been invited to afternoon tea at one of our houses,” scoffed Kelly in disbelief, referring to Fauci saying that he would “consider” appearing before Congress.

“F*** you, Dr. Fauci,” said Kelly. “You don’t get to say whether you go. You get a Congressional subpoena. You show up or you get the Steve Bannon treatment.”
