Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home before dawn Monday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
This is no longer social-media speculation. Homeland Security Investigations carried out a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Justice Department.
The Justice Department has not publicly disclosed why agents were sent to a sitting member of Congress’s home. The operation marks a major escalation in a federal investigation that had already been confirmed publicly.
The first reports tied the search to scrutiny of Omar’s immigration paperwork:

Fox News reports that HSI agents arrived at Omar’s D.C. home around 6 a.m. Eastern. Citing a source familiar with the matter, the outlet says the search stems from a criminal fraud investigation involving immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child.
Fox also reports that two sources confirmed details of the probe after White House border czar Tom Homan said in September that Omar was the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation. Omar later said federal officials had not contacted her and dismissed the matter as a political attack.
A Justice Department spokesperson confirmed the search to Fox but did not identify the alleged offense or describe what agents were seeking.
The Associated Press then independently confirmed the core development:
BREAKING: Federal agents searched Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar's home as part of a criminal investigation, AP sources say. https://t.co/67uyHWqjY9

The Associated Press reports that multiple people familiar with the matter identified Omar’s home as the target of the Monday-morning search and HSI as the agency that conducted it. Those sources spoke anonymously because the investigation remains active.
AP obtained the same basic confirmation from the Justice Department: HSI agents executed a judicially authorized warrant in the Washington area, and the enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
Omar, a Minnesota Democrat and prominent member of the far-left “Squad,” has represented the state’s 5th Congressional District since 2019. Her office had not publicly explained the search when the first reports appeared Monday morning.
A federal search warrant is not a criminal conviction, and no charge or arrest had been announced in the initial reporting. It does mean investigators persuaded a judge that probable cause existed to authorize a search for evidence at the specified location.
That distinction matters. So does the extraordinary fact that federal agents executed the warrant at the home of a sitting congresswoman.
The search immediately put the equal-justice question front and center:
🚨 NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW. NOT EVEN ILHAN OMAR. TIME TO DEPORT.

For years, Omar has been treated by much of the political press as though scrutiny of her background and conduct were automatically illegitimate. Monday’s search makes that posture impossible to maintain.
Investigators should follow the evidence wherever it leads, and Omar should receive the same due process as anyone else. But elected office cannot become a shield against lawful investigation.
The Justice Department has not yet released the warrant, the supporting affidavit or an inventory of anything seized. Until those records or additional official details emerge, the precise scope of the case remains unresolved.
What is confirmed is already historic: federal agents entered Ilhan Omar’s D.C. home under a court-authorized warrant in an active criminal investigation.
This is a developing story.
