The latest clash between anti-law enforcement rioters and immigration agents trying to do their job in California has led to renewed condemnation from the White House toward those rioters who put officers’ lives in danger.
In a new statement this week, President Donald Trump made it clear that he is serious about giving ICE agents the tools and authority necessary to defend against such ongoing threats.
After witnessing the violent actions and property damage inflicted by the crowds earlier in the week, Trump took to social media to describe the measures he has taken to put the balance of power back on the side of law and order.
A Fox News report provided some context surrounding the president’s decision to grant additional power to impacted federal authorities:
Trump was traveling to Washington from Texas, where he toured the region where devastating floods have left at least 120 people dead, and he penned a lengthy post on Truth Social about the violence against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
ADVERTISEMENT“I am on my way back from Texas, and watched in disbelief as THUGS were violently throwing rocks and bricks at ICE Officers while they were moving down a roadway in their car and/or official vehicle,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“Tremendous damage was done to these brand new vehicles. I know for a fact that these Officers are having a hard time with allowing this to happen in that it shows such total disrespect for LAW AND ORDER.”
Federal authorities conducted raids on Glass House Farms families in Camarillo and Carpinteria. Authorities used tear gas, and there were reports of objects being thrown at agents.
The clash between protesters and agents fueled significant social media reaction this week:

The New York Post also reported on the president’s response to the situation:
“Therefore, I am directing Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, and Border Czar, Tom Homan, to instruct all ICE, Homeland Security, or any other Law Enforcement Officer who is on the receiving end of thrown rocks, bricks, or any other form of assault, to stop their car, and arrest these SLIMEBALLS, using whatever means is necessary to do so.”
The coverage continued:
“I am giving Total Authorization for ICE to protect itself, just like they protect the Public,” Trump said. “I never want to see a car carrying a Law Enforcement Officer attacked again!”
“AUTHORIZATION IMMEDIATELY GRANTED FOR ARREST AND INCARCERATION. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump deployed troops from the California National Guard and US Marines to Los Angeles last month in an effort to protect ICE and DHS agents carrying out immigration raids after chaos similar to what was seen in Camarillo broke out after an enforcement operation in the City of Angels.
ADVERTISEMENTAn appeals court has allowed the troops to remain in Los Angeles under Trump’s authority pending the outcome of a trial in August that would determine if the president’s deployment of the Marines and Guardsmen is legal.
Here’s what Trump had to say about the protests in Los Angeles a few weeks ago:
