With the sudden rise in far-left, anti-Israel candidates within the Democrat Party, even one panelist on ABC’s “The View” is speaking up.
But sources say the segment in question sparked an irate call from an aide to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, widely seen as the de facto leader of this intraparty uprising.
The comment that sparked the complaint reportedly came during a discussion of congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, whom co-host Sara Haines called “an antisemite.”
As the New York Post reported:
The Mamdani aide, whose identity wasn’t revealed in the report, reportedly warned that Haines’ remarks could affect whether Mamdani and other democratic socialist candidates would agree to appear on the show in the future.
ADVERTISEMENTThe clash came as ABC reportedly declined a request from Mamdani’s team to feature two of the mayor’s congressional allies — Avila Chevalier and Queens Assemblywoman Claire Valdez — on “The View.”
The news drew some interest on social media:
Anyone celebrating Oct 7th is a genocidal Jew hater.
Thats what she did and there’s no other way to explain it.

So did that Mamdani aide prove Haines’ point about communist Darializa Avila Chevalier being an anti-Semite?

Sara Haines is actually the last voice of reason on that show.

The development comes amid reports that “The View” is reducing the number of politicians on the show amid an FCC probe.
According to Semafor:
Still, the inquiry itself has been enough to force the network to hedge which guests appear on the show, a notable departure from The View’s previous booking decisions.
Since Barbara Walters created the show in 1997, it’s become a must-visit campaign stop for political candidates running for every office. It famously hosted Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Vice President Kamala Harris; more recently, Zohran Mamdani and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo came on last year when running for New York City mayor (the Republican candidate, Curtis Sliwa, did not appear). In 2024, the show welcomed Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz shortly before the November election, as well as top Democrats like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.; Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.; and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
The show continues to wade into politics, hosting elected officials like Vice President JD Vance and Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn. But neither are currently on the ballot in any upcoming elections. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., who is up for reelection in the fall, appeared on the show in March, but did not face a primary challenger.
The show has in recent weeks rebuffed some candidates that it invited on the show.
Earlier this year, a representative for Mamdani pitched The View on hosting the mayor and democratic socialist candidates he supported for Congress, Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez, according to a person familiar with the conversations. The View said it was interested in having the mayor on, but indicated it couldn’t accommodate Avila Chevalier or Valdez, now Democratic congressional nominees, this person said. Among other reasons, the show’s staff noted that it was proceeding cautiously with political candidate bookings while the FCC’s equal time inquiry was progressing.
Here’s a recap of what has driven the claims of those like Haines, per the Times of Israel:
Darializa Avila Chevalier, a candidate for Congress in New York City, has defended participating in an anti-Israel, pro-Hamas rally on October 8, 2023, the day after the Hamas onslaught in Israel, an event that saw participants celebrate the high number of Israeli fatalities in the worst terror attack in the Jewish state’s history.
Avila Chevalier, 32, is running against US Rep. Adriano Espaillat for New York’s 13th Congressional District in Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx.
Avila Chevalier is a far-left, anti-Israel activist, and while Espaillat has longstanding progressive bona fides, he is a centrist Democrat when it comes to Israel.
The race is another test case for how anti-Israel activism is roiling US politics, particularly on the left, and illustrates the struggle between the Democratic Party’s centrist establishment and its far-left wing.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed Avila Chevalier last week, giving her campaign a major boost. Espaillat had endorsed Mamdani in the general election and Mamdani had reportedly pledged to support Espaillat’s congressional run. Mamdani’s about-face shook confidence in his trustworthiness among some political operatives in the city, Politico reported.
Images of Avila Chevalier at the anti-Israel rally over two-and-a-half years ago circulated after the endorsement. Avila Chevalier was not well known at the time and her participation in the rally had been previously reported by Canary Mission.
Times of Israel footage from the rally showed Avila Chevalier, wearing a keffiyeh, standing next to a protester holding a sign that said, “Zionism is genocide.”
