President Trump said on Monday that he recommends Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline, to serve the remainder of his term.

Graham’s term will end in January 2027.

“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!” Trump said on Truth Social.

POLITICO has more:

McMaster is expected to announce his decision about who will replace Graham during a press conference later Monday afternoon.

Even if she’s appointed, it’s unclear if Nordone would want to run for the full term. A number of South Carolina Republicans have already expressed interest in taking over Graham’s seat since his death Sunday, including Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman (R-S.C.).

“Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, would be a fantastic pick to serve out the remainder of the senate term. After speaking with Darline, there is no one better who understands Lindsey’s love for family, our state, and our country,” Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) commented.

Graham was seeking re-election this year and won the GOP primary last month.

Now, a special primary election will be held on August 11 to determine who will run for the full, six-year term in November.

The Hill shared further:

Republicans are seeking to appoint a short-term replacement for Graham as soon as possible.

Politico reported on Monday that Graham’s colleague, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), had also recommended former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) as a short-term pick to replace Graham.

“Trey Gowdy would be a fantastic placeholder, but certainly there are other names in the mix,” Scott told CNN on Monday. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Trey would serve well.”

Conversations over who will run for Graham’s seat in November have also been ongoing. A number of names including Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, Rep. Ralph Norman and Rep. Nancy Mace, who all unsuccessfully ran in the South Carolina Republican gubernatorial primary, have been floated as possibilities.

Graham was up for reelection in November and was slated to run against Democrat Annie Andrews in the general election.
