President Trump took questions in the Oval Office on Wednesday about Iran, Kuwait, and the state of ceasefire negotiations, and his message was steady. American forces are protected, the talks are moving, and the pressure is on Tehran.

Trump was asked about Iran’s targeting of U.S. forces and the overnight attack on Kuwait that injured dozens. He said American forces shut it down fast.

Trump said U.S. forces “nipped it in the bud very quickly.”

He said negotiations are going “very well” and that a deal could be finalized over the weekend, while cautioning that it might not come together. No final agreement exists yet, and Trump did not pretend otherwise.

The clearest signal came when he talked about the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said that if a memorandum is signed, the strait opens immediately, though he acknowledged mines may need to be checked first.

That CENTCOM update tells the story on the ground. Iran threw drones at American forces in Kuwait, and the drones did not reach their targets.

U.S. Central Command said its air defenses downed multiple drones and that no American personnel or assets were harmed.

This is what leverage looks like. Trump is keeping a diplomatic off-ramp open while making clear that attacks on American forces fail.

The Gateway Pundit reported on Trump’s Oval Office remarks:

President Trump provided an update on the war in Iran and ongoing ceasefire negotiations while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday.

Early in the press conference, Trump was asked by Newsmax’s Mike Carter to respond to Iran’s recent targeting of US forces and the overnight attack on Kuwait, which injured dozens of people. Trump suggested that the attack was “not a big deal” as US forces “nipped it in the bud very quickly.”

He further maintained that negotiations are going “very well” and said that a deal could be finalized this weekend.

Later in the press conference, Trump told reporters that Iran has agreed to allow the US to dig up and destroy its nuclear material, which was “buried underneath a mountain” after the Operation Midnight Hammer strikes last summer, he said. However, the agreement appears uncertain, as “sometimes” Iran is not on board.

Still, “We have with Space Force, we have cameras from every angle of that. Those three sites are being watched at all times,” Trump said.

The regional picture is tense, and the U.S. military has been active in answering Iran’s aggression.

Reuters via Internazionale also reported that U.S. forces downed drones targeting regional shipping and American forces in Kuwait, while Iran-linked attacks continued near Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is the chokepoint that moves a huge share of the world’s oil. Keeping it open keeps prices in check and keeps Iran from holding the global economy hostage.

Trump tied the reopening directly to a signature. Sign the memorandum, and the strait opens right away.

That is the whole point of peace through strength. You protect your troops, you answer every attack, and you leave the door open for the other side to make the smart choice.

Nothing is finished yet, and Trump said as much. But the pressure is squarely on Tehran, American forces came through unharmed, and the off-ramp is still there if Iran wants it.
