President Trump just did something that neither Obama nor Biden ever had the courage to do. He signed an executive order directing the FDA to fast-track the review of psychedelic-based treatments for serious mental illness, with a special focus on helping our veterans.
This is a massive deal. For decades, promising research into substances like psilocybin and MDMA has been stuck in regulatory limbo while veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and treatment-resistant depression have been left with few options. President Trump just cut through the red tape.
The executive order specifically targets psychedelics that have already received “breakthrough therapy” designation from the FDA, meaning the science is already there. The bureaucracy was the bottleneck, and Trump just unclogged it.
Fox News covered the announcement:

What makes this story even more remarkable is the role Joe Rogan played behind the scenes. Rogan, who has been one of the most vocal advocates for psychedelic research, reportedly texted President Trump directly to urge him to take action. Rogan revealed during the signing ceremony at the White House that he had personally reached out to the President.
The White House shared the moment:

Fox News laid out the key provisions of the order:
The executive order directs the FDA to use its existing expedited review pathways to accelerate the evaluation of psychedelic compounds that have already been designated as breakthrough therapies. It also establishes an interagency task force to coordinate research efforts across the Department of Defense, the VA, and the National Institutes of Health.
Trump signed the order during a White House ceremony attended by veterans, researchers, and advocates, including podcast host Joe Rogan, who has long championed psychedelic therapy on his show. Rogan spoke at the event, describing the personal stories of veterans he has interviewed who found relief through psychedelic-assisted therapy after conventional treatments failed.
Veterans who served this country, who came home carrying invisible wounds, have been waiting years for treatments that the data already supports. President Trump just told the FDA to stop dragging its feet.
Military.com reported on the veteran-focused elements of the order:
The order specifically directs the Department of Veterans Affairs to expand clinical trials of psilocybin-assisted therapy at VA medical centers. Currently, only a handful of VA facilities participate in such research, and the order calls for a significant expansion over the next 12 months.
Veterans groups have largely praised the move, noting that 22 veterans die by suicide every day in the United States and that existing pharmaceutical options have proven inadequate for many suffering from combat-related PTSD and traumatic brain injury.
Twenty-two veterans a day. That is the number that should haunt every politician who has stood in the way of this research. President Trump heard that number, heard the stories from Rogan and from the veterans themselves, and he acted.
This is exactly what leadership looks like. Not another study. Not another committee. An executive order with real teeth that tells the federal bureaucracy to get out of the way so our veterans can get the help they deserve.
