Over 900 people have died, and more than 3,300 have been injured in Venezuela after two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 rocked the South American nation.

BREAKING: Multiple Earthquakes Rock Venezuela – 7.1 And 7.5 Magnitude – Footage Shows Collapsed Buildings

A massive rescue effort is ongoing, with volunteers from numerous countries providing aid and helping search for missing people.

"The death toll is rising, and the images were getting out of Venezuela from our volunteers on the ground are very harrowing. Please pray for Venezuela!" the United Cajun Navy stated.

CNN shared further:

Rescuers are racing to reach survivors beneath the rubble before the “golden” window of time closes. Many displaced families have nowhere to go in Caracas, La Guaira and surrounding areas.

Venezuela was already mired in political and financial crisis. Some residents are calling for civilian volunteers to help clear debris, saying the emergency response is insufficient. Doctors say chronic underfunding left the healthcare system unequipped to treat the surge of patients.

The US military is on the ground for rescue efforts in Venezuela — where, earlier this year, special forces conducted a deadly raid to seize then-President Nicolás Maduro. A wave of machinery, supplies and international aid workers is heading toward hard-hit areas.

"80 Swiss rescuers and a team of Mexican aid workers" are among those helping in the rescue efforts, BBC noted.

“We're already deploying search and rescue teams from Fairfax County, Virginia, and Los Angeles. There will be some others we'll add. That's their most immediate need right now, is search and rescue efforts- they have much of collapsed buildings. And so they'll need a lot of help in terms of digging through that," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

“We've already stood up our disaster response teams at the Department of State and our humanitarian efforts. It's something we did very well in Jamaica, after that storm, and it's something we're really prepared to do now," he added.

Colombia and El Salvador are also sending humanitarian aid and personnel to Venezuela.

BBC noted:

As well as the rising death toll - now at 920 people - 383 buildings have been damaged, including 13 hospitals and 25 shopping centres, lawmaker Jorge Rodríguez says on Venezuelan television.

At least 1,000 other infrastructure sites have sustained damage, he adds.

He also says 243 people have been rescued from La Guaira, one of the areas worst affected by the earthquakes.
