The U.S. men’s national soccer team is making a splash in the FIFA World Cup.
On Thursday night the USMNT was easily able to defeat Bosnia to advance to the round of 16.
The USMNT defeated Bosnia 2-0, however the match was not without controversy.
The New York Times reported more on the win and the controversial red card the U.S. received:
The United States saw off Bosnia and Herzegovina in its first World Cup knockout match despite a controversial red card for opening goalscorer Folarin Balogun.
ADVERTISEMENTThe striker was sent off after inadvertently landing on a Bosnia defender’s ankle and will now miss the round-of-16 clash with Belgium in Seattle on July 6.
Balogun had earlier scored his third goal of the tournament to fire the USMNT into a first-half lead.
Malik Tillman then sent the 10-man U.S. into the next round when he curled home a delightful free kick late on.
