A Louisiana mother who gave her sons a whooping after catching them breaking into a home now faces the possibility of decades behind bars.

Schaquana Evita Spears, 30, was arrested on child cruelty charges after she caught her three sons breaking into the home of neighbor Lisa Nicholson, CBS News reported.

Spears was arrested after her 13-year-old son was interviewed by officials from child services at the juvenile detention center where they discovered lacerations on his arms, back and legs he said came from his mother hitting him with an RCA cord, according to the Advocate.

Her other two sons also had injuries prompting Spears to be charged with two counts of cruelty to juveniles.

It is unlikely Spears will be prosecuted as the man who would be charged with her prosecution, East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar C. Moore III, disagreed with her being arrested in the first place.

“Surely you would expect a parent to discipline a child who is burglarizing other people’s homes as this could be a deadly encounter for the child,” he told the Advocate.

“We oftentimes see children who have no parental authority or discipline which eventually results in delinquency and criminal acts,” he said. “We need more parents who discipline their children.”

Nicholson, the victim of the crime, also stuck up for her neighbor.

“If it was me I’m gonna beat you before I let the cops kill you. I’m gonna do what I have to do,” she said. “I’m not gonna let (my children) steal and kill and do all of that. I’m not gonna let them fall victim to the streets.”
