The rapid proliferation of wagering platforms has raised serious concerns about the potential of individuals to impact the outcome of certain bets to manipulate their odds of winning.

One alleged example recently emerged within the Trump administration, which reportedly took swift action upon learning of the accusations.

As The Hill reported:

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the teleprompter operator accused of placing bets on President Trump’s speeches has been put on administrative leave.

“The individual that was cited in that report is complying with the CFTC [Commodity Futures Trading Commission] and has been placed on administrative leave,” Leavitt told reporters at the White House press briefing Thursday.

Leavitt said Trump had been made aware of the situation, adding that another teleprompter operator will handle Trump’s primetime address to the nation later Thursday.

“He believes it is deeply unfortunate and, frankly, a disgrace,” she said.

News quickly spread via social media:

ABC News added these details:

Gabriel Perez, a technical assistant to the president who has been operating Trump’s teleprompter since 2016, is in talks with federal regulators to settle allegations he used his inside knowledge of the president’s speeches to win more than $100,000, the sources said.

According to the sources, Kalshi alerted its regulator, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), to the suspicious activity on its “Mentions” market, where users can bet on whether specific words, phrases or topics are uttered during a public speech.
