Rep. Al Green (D-TX) revived his push to impeach President Trump ahead of the midterm elections.

“On Monday, August 24, 2026, Congressman Al Green filed H.Res.1486, to impeach President Donald John Trump for high crimes and misdemeanors. The resolution states that President Trump abused his presidential powers by allowing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to operate without accountability, assault civilians, and cover up killings, including those of Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero,” a press release from Green’s office read.

“Following the filing of H.Res.1486, Congressman Green sent a communiqué to President Trump formally notifying him of the filing,” it added.

Democrats have urged the White House to reform its immigration enforcement tactics after the deaths of U.S. citizens and immigrants by ICE and Border Patrol officials. Among the most prominent cases was the death of Renee Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and Minneapolis resident, who was shot by an immigration officer in January.

Weeks later, Border Patrol agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and intensive care nurse, in Minneapolis. More recently, an ICE officer fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican immigrant, in Houston.

“President Trump has used ICE and CBP to suppress the First Amendment rights to free speech and a free press; violate the Fourth Amendment right to privacy and protections against unlawful searches and excessive force; and defy the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendment guarantees of due process and equal protection by allowing and encouraging racially targeted 7 arrests, unjustified detentions, and unjustified killings,” the resolution notes.

Green has previously introduced articles of impeachment against Trump, but his efforts have failed to garner the support needed to advance in the House. Green, for instance, filed an article of impeachment against Trump in June 2025, accusing the president of failing to notify or seek authorization from Congress before the U.S. launched strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites that summer.

Trump said he would be impeached if Democrats regain control of Congress in the midterm elections.

“I’m going to be impeached. They’re going to impeach me. They have no idea why,” he said.

The White House scoffed at Green’s attempt.

“The brave men and women of ICE and CBP put their lives on the line to arrest murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists,” said White House spokesperson Lauren Bis, “Al Green should be thanking President Trump and our law enforcement for delivering the largest decrease in violent crime in American history.”

The House impeached Trump twice in his first term: in 2019 for withholding military aid for Ukraine and in 2021 after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The Senate voted to acquit him both times.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said at a CNBC summit in June that impeaching Trump wasn’t a focus for his party if Democrats take the majority after the midterms.
