President Trump brought reporters outside for a tour of the work underway around the White House.
They heard about granite, a new helipad, the driveway and the ballroom.
But then the President turned his attention to the lawn — and delivered the line of the day.
“If you’re grass, you’re very happy.”
Watch this:
That is vintage President Trump.
Most politicians would have offered a dry update about landscaping and moved on. Trump gave the press corps a full explanation of topsoil, grass health and what the lawn itself must be feeling.
He said the ground had been redone with fresh topsoil and “a lot of good ingredients” before thanking Scotts Miracle-Gro for providing the restoration free of charge.
The lawn work was part of a much larger construction tour that President Trump decided to give the press himself:

The Associated Press reported that President Trump showed reporters the granite being installed around a new helicopter landing area on the South Lawn.
He praised the stone’s strength, said the work would impress foreign leaders and even signed the back of a granite piece that will be incorporated into the presidential seal on the helipad.
The President also said the project had been delayed so the landing area could be regraded and made flatter. The tour touched the new ballroom, the replaced driveway and the broader effort to remake the White House grounds.
Yet grass has become one of President Trump’s favorite subjects, and he was clearly pleased with how this particular job was coming together.
During the tour, he walked over to thank the workers installing the new helipad and made sure the press came with him:
“Nice job, fellas!” 🇺🇸
President Trump took a moment to walk over and greet construction workers installing the new helipad on the White House South Lawn, praising the crew.
“This is serious media,” Trump joked before telling the workers, “You guys are doing a great job.”

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company said it committed $1 million in monetary and product support to the National Park Service for the South Lawn restoration after the UFC Freedom 250 event.
The company did more than provide ordinary seed or sod. Its scientists developed a custom turfgrass blend for the unique demands placed on the White House lawn.
President Trump selected the final formula from eight options combining tall fescues and Kentucky bluegrasses. The company said the mix was designed for durability, heat and disease tolerance, density and color.
The restoration plan included new sod, overseeding and technical help from the company’s research team. That matters on a lawn expected to host major events, carry heavy foot traffic and remain camera-ready throughout Washington’s changing seasons.
The work became necessary after the massive temporary setup for the June UFC event left the grounds in rough shape.
President Trump also tossed in a political aside while thanking the company, saying it had contributed to his campaign.
He did not specify whether he meant the company itself, an executive, an affiliated committee or which campaign organization received the money.
Federal Election Commission records show an active Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. Stewardship PAC, but that committee is listed as unauthorized and the President did not identify it during his remarks.
Whatever the precise reference, the public contribution to the lawn restoration is not in doubt. Scotts announced the $1 million National Park Service commitment before the UFC event, and the White House publicly confirmed the partnership.
Now the grass is in what President Trump described as a temporary state of shock while the new lawn takes hold.
Give it two or three weeks, he told reporters, and it will look beautiful.
And if the grass could talk, apparently it would say the same thing.
